NOTE:  

  • This position requires extreme work schedule flexibility to accommodate the Horseshoe Park Equestrian Centre programs and events.  This may and will include weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.  Horseshoe Park Equestrian Centre operations schedules do not match the typical 8am to 5pm work schedule. 


  • This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.


JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing skilled equestrian center preventative maintenance, repair or general maintenance activities.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a fully qualified equestrian center maintenance classification in the maintenance and operations job family where tasks and assignments are performed using a variety of procedures and techniques. This is the experienced/journey level that is fully competent in the technical/functional aspects of assigned role. Work usually involves the application of sound technical principles and best practices associated with planning, diagnosis, troubleshooting and problem solving. Incumbents perform varied assignments requiring journey level knowledge in equestrian center maintenance.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification.  While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.

 

  • Creates several types of arena set ups specifically designed for each event.
  • Prepares footing per event specifications in park arenas.
  • Performs routine and skilled level arena maintenance activities.
  • Sets up and tears down arena panels.
  • Provides maintenance services at events.
  • Operates several types of equipment water truck, dump truck, skid steer, loaders, gannon tractors, and large tractors equipped grooming implements, and laser levelers. 
  • Performs inspections, repairs, maintenance, preventive maintenance, installation, and calibration of various types of equipment and systems for the park.
  • Monitors condition of equipment and performs repairs for which qualified.
  • Identifies equipment needs for each assigned project; prepares material, such as dirt, millings, and rip rap. 
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of hand and/or power tools, which includes paint guns, rollers, concrete saws, paint stripers, water pumps, blowers, weed eaters, chain saws, jack hammers, and/or a variety of other light equipment.
  • Operates heavy construction equipment which will vary depending on assigned area.  Equipment may include but is not limited to backhoes, graders, front-end loaders, forklifts, street sweepers, large trucks, sewer combination cleaners, arena grooming equipment, skid steer, dump truck, water truck, vacuum truck and gang mowers for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, wastewater systems, and park maintenance. 
  • Maintains and controls inventory including tracking inventory used per work orders and new parts and materials received. 
  • Maintains written work records, including complaint resolution, maintenance and repair logs, flow records, and daily work logs. 
  • Performs recordkeeping and shop maintenance. 
  • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment; reports any concerns in a timely manner. 
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:  

 

High School Diploma or GED supplemented by vocational/technical training in heavy equipment operations and vehicle operations and 3 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

 

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Driver's License;
  • Commercial Driver's License with Class A Tanker Endorsement;
  • Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.
